Candlelight vigil by residents of the 12 storey building destroyed by Israeli airstrike
(27 Aug 2014) A candlelight vigil was held on Wednesday night for Gaza City residents who lost their homes after an Israeli air strike on an 12-story apartment building.
Israel bombed the Zafer Tower in central Gaza City on Saturday, collapsing the structure in an unprecedented strike.
The Israeli military said the missiles targeted a Hamas operations room in the building, but did not explain why the entire tower with 44 apartments was brought down.
Residents were warned to evacuate before the strikes but 22 people were wounded, including 11 children and five women, according to Gaza hospital officials.
Nearby the vigil, a spokesperson from Hamas' military wing al-Qassam addressed a crowd over the recent cease-fire between Hamas and Israel.

Sky News host Rita Panahi has reacted to transgender woman Anne Andres having the nerve to “mock women”.
Ms Panahi criticised “men who identify as women” for having the nerve to compete in women’s sports.
“They have a massive unfair advantage,” Ms Panahi said.
“Mediocre male athletes who have no chance in the men’s competition should not be taking opportunities from female athletes.”
Ms Panahi reacted to a video posted by Ms Andres of her criticising women’s powerlifting.
Ms Andres said in the video: “Why is women’s bench so bad? I mean not compared to me, we all know that I’m a tranny freak so that doesn’t count and no we’re not talking about Mackenzie Lee, she’s got little T-Rex arms, and she is like 400 pounds of chest muscle apparently. I mean standard bench in powerlifting competition for women, I literally don’t know why it’s so bad.”

Abu Ubaida claimed victory over Israel, saying Hamas forces "hit the depth of the Zionist enemy".
Both sides have claimed victory over Tuesday's open-ended cease-fire leaving questions over the future terms of their uneasy peace still lingering.
